40 Week / 1 Week Postpartum Survey

Hey everyone! As most of you know, Denver Josiah Sledge has arrived!!! He is cuddly and wiggly and warm, and I am so thankful that God made me his mama. I am definitely behind on blogging, and I plan to catch up over the next week. Here is one last survey/pic to document the pregnancy journey, and then I’ll start posting about life as a mama.

  • How far along are you? 40 weeks/1 week postpartum
  • What size is baby? 8 lbs 11 oz, 21 inches long. I am astounded.
  • Gender prediction? The ultrasound was correct. Denver is a boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? The birth was NATURAL and painful. I will post Denver’s birth story soon.
  • How much weight have you gained? Before delivery, 33 lbs. I haven’t weighed myself since.
  • Food cravings? I finally ate a hot dog. It was delicious. Now I just need queso and a margarita to make up for the last 9 months.
  • Maternity clothes? I am pretty thin again but not quite back to my usual size. My boobs are huge. Consequently, I still wear maternity pants/shorts and now Micah’s t-shirts. I am wondering when/if my wedding ring will ever fit again.
  • Exercise routine? Breastfeeding, you would not believe how much energy this requires. I nurse Denver approximately 5 hours a day.
  • Sleep Habits? I have a newborn, and he is nocturnal. Enough said. At least the trains no longer bother me.
  • Best moment of the week? Finally seeing my sweet boy’s face! I can’t believe how perfectly God created him, with his little cleft chin, light brown hair, and big Browning feet.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Stitches
  • Weekly wisdom? God is bigger than comprehension.

Here’s the final bump pic! Forgive my terrible posture. Denver is so heavy, my back is killing me.

Denver’s birth story is coming up soon.

Thanks for reading!

With love,

36 Week Survey

Hey everyone! I lost internet service over the weekend, so this update is a bit late. Baby and I have made it to the final month of pregnancy! I cannot believe how quickly the days are passing. Here’s the 36 week survey.

  • How far along are you? 36 weeks
  • What size is baby? The 36 week average is 18.66 inches, 5.78 pounds, and the size of a large cantaloupe.
  • Gender prediction? We are having a baby boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural. The doctor said Baby is head down at my most recent appointment so that’s positive news. I’m also already dilated 1-2cm which is exciting! I know that I could stay that way for weeks, but the doc said it’s unlikely Baby will arrive late.
  • How much weight have you gained? 29 lbs
  • Food cravings? Strawberry smoothies and orange creamsicles. Micah picked up some orange creamsicle ice-cream from the grocery store because he’s so thoughtful!
  • Maternity clothes? I am always in maternity clothes. I miss my waist and the ability to wear cute sundresses. I also miss wearing my wedding ring! It’s so funny that when I was newly pregnant, I wanted the bump. Now I have the bump and all I want is to be slim again. I think I will miss looking pregnant in a few months because my belly amazes me each morning when I see it. Currently though, I am ready to return to my regular clothes.
  • Exercise routine? Micah, Presley and I have been walking in the evenings in our new neighborhood. I love walking with the boys, I love that we live so close to a playground and a greenway, and I look forward to the day when Baby Sledge will be walking with us.
  • Sleep Habits? Sleep is a disaster again, mostly because of the adjustment to the new house. Presley whines at night, the trains wake me up, though Micah sleeps through them, I use the restroom regularly, and heartburn is awful when I lay down.
  • Best moment of the week? I’ve had several. 1) During my doctor’s appointment, Micah hid behind a curtain while the doc checked me, and it was hilarious. 2) My sister-in-law, Brooke, unexpectedly sent first edition prints from a Curious George book to hang in the nursery. 3) My church small group hosted a barbecue Friday night. We ate delicious food, played basketball, and talked until late in the evening.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Heartburn
  • Weekly wisdom? Enjoy snugs with Presley. He has been such a velcro dog lately, following Micah and me from room to room. He will still get snugs after Baby arrives, but his life will look a bit different since he has to share the attention.

Here’s the latest bump pic! Sorry the yellow background is gone and the chalkboard is on top of a pedestal. New house, new rules. I did manage to squeeze into my size 6 maternity jeans, so I consider the pic a victory.

With love,

33 Week Survey

Here’s the latest weekly survey. I cannot believe that there are less than two months to go!

  • How far along are you? 33 weeks
  • What size is baby? The 33 week average is 17.2 inches, 4.23 pounds, and the size of a honeydew melon.
  • Gender prediction? We are having a baby boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural, so please pray that Baby is head down and stays head down until the big day! He moves a lot, and I’m not confident that he’s always in the right position. I’ll ask at my next appointment.
  • How much weight have you gained? 25 pounds. Yikes. I am supposed to gain about a pound a week from here on out, and that is astounding to me. I can definitely feel the extra weight in my back and belly.
  • Food cravings? Watery fruit such as watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, and grapes.
  • Maternity clothes? I am nearly always wearing maternity clothes now. What’s crazy is that some of my maternity clothes are starting to fit snuggly.
  • Exercise routine? Exercise has taken the form of walking around in 100 degree heat and packing for the move to the house. Dear Nashville, cool off please. This heat wave is hard on a pregnant lady.
  • Sleep Habits? Sleep is pretty good at this point. It’s sometimes hard to fall asleep because of heartburn, and I get up a few times a night to use the restroom and adjust pillows. Overall, though, I am thankful for the rest.
  • Best moment of the week? My Dad flew into Nashville to help Micah and me with the move! I loved showing him the new house, and I appreciate his encouragement. He’s helped so much with painting and packing our apartment, and he’s spent the entire weekend in the crawl space helping Micah fix insulation.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? My back hurts, particularly at work since I sit at a computer all day.
  • Weekly wisdom? Take a break and relax each day. Baby tends to move around when I am still, and his kicks help calm me down when I’m feeling overwhelmed.

Here’s the latest bump pic!

29 Week Survey

Here’s the latest weekly survey!

  • How far along are you? 29 weeks
  • What size is baby? The 29 week average is 15.2 inches, 2.54 pounds, and the size of a small cabbage.
  • Gender prediction? We are having a baby boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural
  • How much weight have you gained? 18 pounds. I think this means I get more ice-cream.
  • Food cravings: Sonic frozen lemonades, chocolate milk, Local Taco, and chocolate chip cookies.
  • Maternity clothes? Maternity shorts are amazingly comfortable. So many people comment on how hot it will be this summer in my third trimester. I think it’s great, though, because I can dress in layers and wear shorts and tank tops.
  • Exercise routine? Life has been hectic lately, and I haven’t been walking as often as I’d like. This three day weekend has been so refreshing though, and Micah, Baby, Presley, and I have been taking family walks at Ellington Agricultural Center.
  • Sleep Habits? During week 27, I was averaging 4-5 hours a night. It was miserable and stress induced. Presently, I am so tired, I am sleeping quite well again. I’ve even fallen back into the habit of falling asleep on the couch at 8:30pm. God bless my husband who has no room on the couch.
  • Best moment of the week? I went to see Captain America: Civil War in the movie theater, and I drank a cherry icee. Between the sound effects and sugar, Baby moved and kicked for the entire film. It was the closest I get to snugs with him right now, and it was a really sweet time.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Yeast infection. Yes, TMI, but keeping it real here.
  • Weekly wisdom? A co-worker once told me, “Don’t stair at the stairs, just step up the steps.” Granted, literally and figuratively stepping up steps is harder when you’re pregnant, but sometimes it’s all you can do to make it through each day.

25 Week Survey

I am 25 weeks pregnant! Oh my goodness, I literally cannot believe how soon Baby will be here. I am so excited to meet him, to see his face, and to hold him close. I am also hoping he stays nice and cozy until right around 40 weeks so that he stays healthy and Micah and I can get the housing situation figured out. Here’s the latest weekly survey.

  • How far along are you? 25 weeks
  • What size is baby? I’ve decided to use head to heel measurements moving forward since this is standard after 20 weeks. The 25 week average is 13.5 inches, 1.5 pounds, and the size of a rutabaga.
  • Gender prediction? We are having a baby boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural
  • How much weight have you gained? 16 pounds, right on track.
  • Food cravings: Watermelon, star crunches, pork chops, popcorn, tomatoes, macaroni and cheese, chocolate chip cookies, fruit smoothies, and ice cream. When I get hungry, I tend to crave a random assortment of foods all at once. Don’t worry though, just because I crave the foods doesn’t mean I’m actually eating the foods.
  • Maternity clothes? Other than some t-shirts which fit snuggly around the bump, I am nearly always wearing maternity clothes or flowy dresses.
  • Exercise routine? I am giving new meaning to The Proclaimers’ lyrics “I would walk 500 miles.” I walk nearly every day and some days several times.
  • Sleep Habits? Sleep is a disaster. Whenever I lay on my sides, Baby starts kicking like crazy, as if I am invading his personal space. I want to sleep on my back, but supposedly this is not recommended for preggie ladies. Consequently, I’ve been sleeping sitting up with 3 pillows behind my back and 1 beneath my knees. I wake up every few hours, and I actually think I’m starting to bother Micah who normally doesn’t hear anything when he sleeps.
  • Best moment of the week? Watching and feeling Baby kick. I think he’s a ninja in training.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? While I’m quoting songs, in the words of Tom Petty, “The waiting is the hardest part.”
  • Weekly wisdom? Enjoy this time with Baby! Though I’m starting to feel some aches and pains, I need to remember that this is a unique time in life and will soon be over. I love carrying Baby each day. We listen to music, I tell him about Jesus and his Daddy and Presley, and he gives me lots of kicks. Praise God for this miracle of pregnancy.

21 Week Survey

Time is starting to fly by. Here’s the latest weekly survey.

  • How far along are you? 21 weeks
  • What size is baby? 7 inches, roughly the size of a banana. My app is still measuring crown to rump as opposed to head to heel, so we’ll stick with it even though it seems unusual.
  • Gender prediction? We are having a baby boy!
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural
  • How much weight have you gained? 13 pounds, good grief
  • Food cravings: Cadbury eggs, ice-cream, and brownies. This may be contributing to the weight gain.
  • Maternity clothes? My mom sent me some beautiful maternity dresses and a cute casual outfit! The dresses are very colorful, like the springtime.
  • Exercise routine? It’s amazing how motivating a baby is in the morning. I still wake up three days before work to exercise, and I walk whenever it’s nice outside on the weekend.
  • Sleep Habits? Sleep is getting harder since my belly is getting bigger. I normally sleep on my left side, and some mornings, around 3-5am, I wake up with hip pain. I can’t complain too much when I consider the lack of sleep I’ll be getting in a few months. I am praying for a sound sleeping baby.
  • Best moment of the week? Announcing the baby’s gender to family and friends. Thanks to my sister-in-law, Brooke, who organized a wonderful gender reveal party. Thanks to my mother-in-law for baking a cute monkey cake. Thanks to so many of our friends for joining in the celebration. Baby Sledge is definitely loved.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Upper respiratory infection
  • Weekly wisdom? Find ways to calm down during mood swings that don’t involve complaining to Micah. He’s been so sweet and understanding. I really wish I had a house and a piano because this used to be my stress remedy. Reading fiction has helped recently.

Below is the latest bump pic as well a pic and video from the gender reveal party.

17 Week Survey

On Friday I had my third appointment,  so it’s time for another update!

  • How far along are you? 17 weeks
  • What size is baby? 5 inches, roughly the size of a turnip. I will have to swing by the Kroger turnip section for a comparison since this means nothing to me.
  • Gender prediction? We find out in 3 weeks, on Good Friday! We’re strongly considering asking the ultrasound tech to put the gender in an envelope that we open with close friends and family during the gender reveal party. We’ll see if we can wait! I’ll post in a few weeks about the old wives’ tales and which gender they predict for Baby Sledge.
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural
  • How much weight have you gained? 6 pounds
  • Food cravings: Starbucks hot chocolate
  • Maternity clothes? I love maternity jeans. Seriously, they are so comfortable. I also love the three maternity shirts that I fit into. They make the belly look cute somehow, which is a relief because most of the time I feel like I look awkward.
  • Exercise routine? I am back on a schedule! I’ve been waking up several mornings each week to walk and lift weights before work. I also walk 3 miles at the park on Saturdays. It helps that Micah’s training for the Nashville half marathon and is on a strict schedule.
  • Sleep Habits? Sleep is a beautiful thing. I still fall asleep on the couch at 8:30pm most nights. I’ve never been a deep sleeper, so I’m enjoying this perk of pregnancy.
  • Best moment of the week? Hearing the baby’s heartbeat. It was much louder during this appointment than at 13 weeks, and it amazes me that it’s coming from our little one.
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Anxiety. I’ll probably write an entire post on this topic because it has played a major role in the pregnancy thus far. I’m still working on finding the right words.
  • Weekly wisdom? Many of my friends are simply a phone call away, and it’s ok to reach out to them when having a hard day. Thanks especially to Emilie, Lauren, Katie, and Kristin. Love you ladies.

Here’s the latest bump pic!

14 Week Survey

Here’s my first of many weekly surveys. I’m technically 15-and-a-half weeks now, but it took me a few extra days to get the blog up and running after I originally wrote the post. I may not complete a survey every week, but I’ll try to complete one each week with significant change. 14 weeks marks the start of my second trimester and is consequently a great week to start.

  • How far along are you? 14 weeks
  • What size is baby? 3 inches, roughly the size of a lemon
  • Gender prediction? We will hopefully find out the gender at 21 weeks. I’ve had dreams about a boy, but when I pray I tend to say “she.”
  • Planning a natural or medicated birth? Natural
  • How much weight have you gained? 4 pounds
  • Food cravings: French fries from Chick-fil-A and strawberry smoothies
  • Maternity clothes? I purchased a Bellaband around 12 weeks since I couldn’t button my jeans. It’s been a life saver at work. My Dad also bought me some shirts and a cute maxi skirt that I am looking forward to wearing in a few weeks. My husband finally told me that it’s time for maternity jeans, so H&M here I come.
  • Exercise routine? I need to get back into a routine. I hibernate in the winter.
  • Sleep Habits? I slept incredibly well for the first 11 weeks since I was nauseated during the day, and my mouth tasted like metal. I slept terribly from weeks 11-13. Sleep seems to have gotten better again recently. Thank goodness! I do tend to fall asleep on the couch around 8:30 each night. Micah takes Presley out and turns down the bed which is thoughtful.
  • Best moment of the week? Announcing the pregnancy on Facebook
  • Biggest discomfort of the week? Nose bleeds! I finally bought a humidifier, and that has helped immensely.
  • Weekly wisdom? Worry less about baby’s health because baby is in God’s hands

Also, here are a few pics from the first trimester. The bump is still little, but it’s definitely growing!

In my next post, I plan to write about the different pregnancy announcements to my husband, our family, and friends. Stay tuned!
